Jan-Bert Dijkstra was appointed as Programme Director ‘Beter Benutten’ (‘Optimising Use’) at the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment of the Netherlands in January 2010. The Programme ‘Optimising Use” focuses on ‘peak-shaving’ on road and on rail with the aim to reduce congestion in peak hours. The Dutch government, regions and businesses are working together on this programme. Prior to this, Dijkstra was Deputy Director of Roads and Traffic Safety at the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. He was responsible for the decision making process of road projects and explorations in the Multi-annual Programme for Infrastructure, Spatial Development and Transport (MIRT). Dijkstra studied law and administrative sciences at the University of Groningen.
