Professor Alan McKinnon is Head of Logistics in the Kühne Logistics University, Hamburg. He was formerly Director of the Logistics Research Centre at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. He has been researching and teaching on freight transport and logistics for 35 years and has undertaken studies for numerous international organisations including the European Commission (EC), the International Transport Forum and International Energy Agency. He was the first Chairman of the World Economic Forum's Logistics and Supply Chain Industry Council and is a member of the European Union's High-Level Group on Logistics set up to advise the EC Transport Commissioner. Much of McKinnon's recent research has been concerned with the links between logistics and climate change. He was a lead author of the transport chapter in the 5th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
